Remembering James Horner, 1953-2015

The world recently lost a terrific musician and composer, James Horner, who passed away in a tragic plane accident.  He played an important role in the film score world with his work on Titanic (1997) and A Beautiful Mind (2001), among many others.  Just as important was the impact his music had on fans worldwide, enhancing some of our deepest emotions, from fear, to pride, and especially love for one another.  As we mourn the loss of such a prolific artist, we can all take inspiration from a man who put his craft at the paramount of importance.  To learn more about the life of this wonderful composer, please see this obituary.

“When we lose a character, when somebody wins, when somebody loses, when someone disappears – at all times I’m keeping track, constantly, of what the heart is supposed to be feeling.”   – James Horner

The Land Before Time (1988) is probably the earliest movie I remember watching.  I didn’t know it all those years ago, but James Horner composed its unforgettable score as well as the famous theme, “If We Hold On Together.”  This music is some of the closest to my heart, as I’m sure it is for many others.
